Indian Culture

Indian culture is very beautiful and conservative about their ritual things. They have many festivals; like Diwali, Holi, Janmastmi, Navratri and so on. Diwali is our New Year day. We have 20 days holidays on that festival. We celebrate this festival same as Christmas in North America. First day of this festival we make food for bad spirit on the road that’s why it doesn’t come in our homes. That Day called “Kali Chaudas”. Second day is ‘Dhan Teras’; this day is for money and we do ‘pooja’ of our money. We have Goddess of money and we called it ‘Laxmi Mata’. On the forth day, we go to temple and do pooja and also wear new clothes. Girls wear traditional dresses. Married women wear ‘saree’ and much jewelry. Men wear kurta, pajama. Also we decorate our house with flowers and draw some design with colors in front of our home. For these five days at night, we put lamps outside our home for lightning because of that this festival also called Lightning festival. On fifth day, people wake up earlier and fire the crackers. After that, they take bath and wear new clothes. Then, they go to the temple and they bow their parents and touch their legs for blessing. This ritual thing, we do with our all elderly people because they give blessings. All relatives meet at one place and make food and lots of fun. And night we have fire works (crackers) out side hour home. After that, we go to our friend’s house like get together. Also, we have special dishes for this festival that all people make at home and serve them when guests come to our home. This festival is our New Year and there is history about this festival. We have historical reason for all festival that we celebrate in India.
